Closing the Bones Excerpt

Closing the bones or bones closing is a spiritual and ancestral practice that have healed and honored mothers around the world. This ceremony is more widely know in Latin American, African and Asian countries and used to benefit women in many ways not just postpartum. Closing the bones can be done during integral moments in your journey like an hysterectomy, abortion, miscarriage and after childbirth. Physically this ceremony can provide stability after childbirth; as some believe realigning bones and muscles, and helping the organs shift while aiding your uterus in shrinking. It is setting a sacred space, and way to nurture her physically and emotionally as she goes through her journey of motherhoodSpiritually, certain cultures believe that when you go through an experience like childbirth your spirit leaves your body to find your babies soul. In which afterwards, closing of the bones is needed for the spirit to be called back to the body while the ritual encourages a new parent to close energetically. This ceremony can also give the mother or parent the space to process everything they are feeling, thinking, healing from. The ceremony includes many aspects but the main component is using fabric to rock, shift, and move the body, a womb massage, and lastly wrapping the body. One thing to remember is depending on the practitioner the ceremony may look different. That does not mean you are not getting the same support, or the ceremony itself is not the same; but more so that due to this ceremony being practiced around the world longer than we can say there will be variations. I urge you to research and find a practitioner or birthworker that aligns with you and your wishes. If you are interested in this ceremony, grab your consultation. And lastly, I am honored to be apart of your journey.
